Abstract

924,147. Feeding tobacco. K. KÍRBER. June 12, 1959 [June 14, 1958], No. 20189/59. Class 130. [Also in Group XXX] In a pneumatic system for feeding tobacco to several cigarette-making machines the tobacco is fed by an elevator conveyer 2a upwardly to delivery points 6, 7, feeding the pneumatic conveyer pipes, the tobacco being sucked off directly at the upper end of the conveyer. The conveyer 2a comprises a number of individual toothed conveyer belts 2a each of which feeds two or more delivery pipes 6, 7, which lead to the delivery boxes 13, 14 of cigarette-making machines, which boxes are connected to suction pipes 15, 16, fed from a common suction pipe 17 under the control of throttles 13a, 14a, operated by electromagnets 18, 19. Each belt 2a is driven from a continuously operating motor 9 through a clutch 10 operated under the control of switches 20, 21, which close when a predetermined suction is achieved in the pipes 6, 7. Fig. 3 shows an electrical circuit for the automatic sequential feeding of the boxes 13, 14. Closing of a time-operated switch 25 actuates a relay 29 to energize a rotary selector switch 31 which rotates to close switch 31b which energizes a relay 27 to activate solenoid 18 to connect pipe 11 to the suction source 17. When sufficient suction develops in pipe 11, switch 20 closes to actuate relays 34, 35, to energize the operating solenoid 36 of clutch 10 and the belt 2a starts to feed into the pipe 11. After a predetermined period, delay switch 33 breaks the circuit of coil 36 to stop the belt 2a and after a further period sufficient to ensure emptying of the pipe 11, delay switch 32 breaks the circuit of relays 29 and 27 to de-energize coil 18 and close the suction valve 13a in pipe 11, terminating the feed. When a second time-operated switch 26 is closed, relay 30 is actuated to energize the selector switch 31 which rotates to close switch 31c, actuating the relay 28 to energize the operating coil 19 of suction valve 14a in pipe 12, the feed through which is controlled by the suction switch 21 and delay switches 32, 33, in the same way as for pipe 11. After termination of the feed through pipe 12 the circuit is inoperative until the time switches 25, 26, initiate another feeding cycle. The elevator 2a may comprise five individual conveyer belts each supplying two or three pneumatic feed pipes, all of which are operated in sequence and the switches 20, 21, may control the circuit of the driving motor of the belt 2a instead of the clutch 10. Specifications 773,835 and 924,148 are referred to.
