Abstract

922,390. Cutting machines. MASCHINENFABRIKEN ZUM BRUDERHAUS G.m.b.H. May 12, 1961 [May 14, 1960], No. 17415/61. Class 31(1). In a device for setting circular cutter knives 1 in rewinding and strip cutting machines, the knives are non-yieldably connected to units which can be simultaneously swivelled about axes normal to the axes of revolution of the knives to present the knives to the cutting edges 14 of counter-knives 15. Knife 1, Figs. 1 and 2, is held in a holder 2 which is rotatably mounted in ball bearings 3 on a stub shaft 4, the stub shaft being secured at right angles to a swivel shaft 5. The knife is turned through 90 degrees out of and into engagement with its counterknife by pneumatic, hydraulic or electromagnetic means actuating a rack and pinion 9<SP>1</SP>, 10, the rack being connected to a piston or plunger 8 and the pinion to the swivel shaft 5. A handwheel 13 is provided for individual adjustment of the knife 1 of each swivelling unit. When the swivelling means are pneumatically or hydraulically operated all the knives are simultaneously moved into contact with their respective counterknives as soon as the pistons 8 are displaced by the pressurized fluid in lines 16, 16<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, and when the knives have made contact with the counterknives, the pressure in the cylinders continues to rise to a pre-set level until the resultant contact pressures reach a corresponding con trollable value. Regulating valves 1611 serve for adjusting any difference in contact pressure after the master valve 21 has been adjusted and change-over valve 18 directs the operating medium to the appropriate side of the pistons while draining the non-pressurized side through line 19. When the swivelling means are operated by magnetic fields then the knives will be moved into contact with their counter-knives as soon as the fields are established, and after the knives have made contact, the fields build up to full strength and thus provide the requisite contact pressure.
