Abstract

921,449. Keyboard switches. OAK MANUFACTURING CO. March 10, 1960 [March 11, 1959], No. 8476/60. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXIV] In switch or other mechanism wherein parallel push-rods 20 may be separately depressed against respective springs 23, each depressed rod 20 is locked " in " by the engagement of a shoulder 21, Fig. 4, thereon under the edge 43 of a respective spring finger 39 on a latch bar 25 extending across the assembly of rods 20, the bar 25 being longitudinally movable by depression of a further spring-loaded push-rod 50 to release simultaneously all these rods 20 which have been depressed. The rods 20, 50 slide in slotted guide plates 10, 11 while the bar 25 slides in end plates 12, 13. The latch bar 25 comprises a castellated bar to which is riveted a spring strip 40 carrying the fingers 39. The end of each finger 39, Fig. 9a, is bent along the dotted lines shown to form a cam 41 and an edge 43. As a rod 20 is depressed the shoulder 21, Fig. 4, thereon rides over the cam 41 to deflect the finger 39 and then snaps under the edge 43. The push-rod 50 has a shoulder engaging a cam edge 52 on the bar 25 to move it, such movement being resisted by a spring 30 engaging end plate 23, and being limited by a finger 36A engaging end plate 12. Movement is also limited by the castellations on bar 25 engaging the shoulders 21. The outward movement of each rod 20 is limited by the thicker shoulder 21 thereon. The spring strip 40 may be modified to deprive any desired push-rod of its locking function.
