Abstract

921,332. Mould materials. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Nov. 10, 1959 [Nov. 26, 1958], No. 38142/58. Class 83 (1). A mould or hot-top has a lining 10 of a fibrous cellulosic material which contains at least 2% and up to 96% by weight of a fibrous refractory filler and which may be provided with a facing layer 11 of refractory material or exothermic material. The cellulosic material may be paper pulp or wood fibre of chippings and may be bound by a resin, clay or silicate. The filler or facing may contain granulated grog, fly ash, crushed slag, alumina, silica, titaria, or furnace aggregate, or vermiculite, and alum or sodium silicate may be added. The fibrous filler may be asbestos, rock wool or slag wool. The lining may be in slab form and be surmounted by lightweight grog. An exothermic facing or backing layer of reducing-agent and oxidising-agent type or carbonaceous type may be added. The exothermic material may comprise aluminium, iron oxide, manganese dioxide, an alkali metal nitrate or chlorate and a fluoride, such as cryolite.
