Abstract

919,545. Moulding hollow articles. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. July 7, 1959 [July 23, 1958], No. 23606/58. Class 87(2). A hollow article, e.g. a diving suit, is moulded by placing, e.g. rubberized fabric 7, in a mould 1, 2 of aluminium sheet and applying pressure to the fabric by an impermeable bag 8 whilst allowing air to escape from between the fabric and the mould through holes in the bag and pipes 13, 14, 15 or in a modification, Fig. 4, through holes in the mould, connectors 17, and pipes 20. The inner surface of the mould may be roughened (see Fig. 5, not shown) to facilitate the release of air. The bag 8 is clamped between end flanges 5, 6. The mould may be placed in an autoclave with the pipe 15 open to atmosphere or suction, the mould may be subject to atmospheric pressure only whilst suction is applied at the pipe 15 or in the Fig. 4 modification pressure may be supplied to the bag only. The pressure fluid may be air or steam.
