Abstract

919,397. Valves. FILTON Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [March 15, 1961], No. 9416/61. Class 135. A fluid flow control valve comprises a housing 1, a valve member 5, 6 engageable with a seat 3 in an internal partition 2 and having a stem 7 extending into a chamber 15 communicating with the upstream side of the partition and a contractible tube or bellows 10 having one end connected to a wall of the housing and the other to the outer end of the stem whereby fluid leaking from the interior of the housing around the stem will reduce the differential pressure on the bellows. The reduced differential pressure holds the valve open against an adjustably loaded spring 18. In the embodiment shown, a second stem 8 surrounded by a bellows 11 is provided and the valve member has two discs 5, 6 of different diameters. Flutter of the valve is provided by the damping effect of passages 25, 27 of small cross-sectional area. A single beat valve member may be used with an upper bellows of approximately equal area to provide pressure balance.
