919,087. Containers' discharges. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Sept. 11, 1961 [Oct. 27, 1960], No. 37029/60. Class 78 (1). Toxic powder is fed from container 26 without spillage through the bottom outlet shown, the outlet being closed by movable closure member 7 which is wound at its two ends on tubes 9 and 10 so that, by turning one of the tubes by means of a key which engages at 14, material may flow out of the outlet via the square aperture formed in member 7. Spillage past the member 7 in the sideways direction is prevented by the surrounding rubber ring 16, and by the deflectable plate 3 which lies between ring 16 and member 7. Thus, when the valve aperture of member 7 is part way slid across the outlet, the thin gap so formed is closed by ring 16 which presses plate 3 downwards to block the gap. Two such units may be employed, each comprising a container and the valve device, and the two plates 1 may be brought together flush and the two valve devices opened so that the powder passes from one container to the other without fear of spillage.
