Abstract

918,100. Surgical syringes. FREEMAN, W. S. Aug. 5, 1959 [Aug. 5, 1958], No. 25070/58. Class 81 (2). A cartridge for charging surgical syringes receives a piston at one end and at the other end a cap which is tubular throughout its length and which is sealed after the syringe has been filled through it, the cap extending forwardly of the body of the cartridge so that when the cartridge is inserted in a syringe the cap extends beyond the end of the syringe to enable its sealed end to be cut away before a needle fitting is mounted on it. To prepare a syringe cartridge, a piston 23 and a tapered cap 27 are mounted on the tubular body portion 22 and a charging needle is inserted in the open-ended bore of the cap; after filling, the needle is withdrawn and the bore sealed. The cartridge is loaded in a syringe, Fig. 1, with the cap 27 extending through a cavity in a cap 20 screwed into the syringe body 10, the sealed lip being cut away immediately before a syringe needle fitting 21 is mounted on the cap 27. An alternative form of cap 28, Fig. 7, is secured to the cartridge by means of a serrated plug 29.
