Abstract
Meta- and para-difluorobenzenes are prepared from the corresponding amines by the fluoborate process, wherein the diazotisation and the conversion to the corresponding diazonium fluoborate is carried out in concentrated sulphuric acid. In examples a mixture of sodium nitrite and concntrated sulphuric acid is cooled and a solution of m- or p-phenylene-diamine in acetic acid is added, the mixture is cooled, filtered to remove sodium hydrogen sulphate, and washed with acetic acid. The solution of diazonium compound is cooled and reacted with fluoboric acid to give the fluoborate which is decomposed by heating to 210 DEG C. to give m- or p-difluorobenzene.
