Abstract

916,319. Control of D.C. motors. ELOX CORPORATION. Nov. 24, 1960, No. 40478/60. Class 38 (3). [Also in Groups XXII, XXIX and XXXVI] In a control arrangement for a separately excited motor 42 positioning an electrode 10, Fig. 5, of an erosive spark discharge device, the direction of rotation and speed of the motor is controlled by the difference between the voltage drop across a resistor 48 in the anode circuit of a pentode 40 and the voltage of a source 46. In a modification, Fig. 6, the voltage across an anode resistor 70 is opposed by a source 74 in the base to emitter circuits of transistors 62, 64 of PNP and NPN type, respectively, connected in parallel. When the voltage across the resistor 70 equals the voltage of the source 74 both transistors are non-conductive and the motor is stationary. An increase of voltage across the resistor 70 causes a point 72 to become negative and transistor 62 will be rendered conductive to connect a source 66 to the motor 42 to cause downward feed of the electrode. Conversely, a reduction in the voltage across the resistor 70 causes the transistor 64 to conduct so as to connect a source 68 to the motor.
