Abstract

915,827. Charging engines. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Aug. 4, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1960], No. 28432/60. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] The cell rotor 20-22 of a pressure exchanger is driven through a shaft 23 from an I.C. engine (not shown) and the effective opening of a bleed flow path between the high pressure engine exhaust inlet duct 34 and the low pressure outlet duct 33 is controlled by a valve 38 connected by a rod 37 to a conventional centrifugal governor 36. Ambient air is admitted through an inlet duct 32 and after compression is discharged through a duct 35 to the intake manifold of the engine. In a modification the governor-controlled bleed valve is of the rotary type and in a further modification the high pressure inlet duct communicates with the cells through a volute 50, Fig. 7 (not shown) connected by toothed gearing and a lever to the governor whereby the valute is angularly adjusted with respect to a fixed end plate of the pressure exchanger resulting in bleed ports in the valute being brought into or out of register with bleed passages in the said fixed plate.
