Abstract

915,691. Adhesive tape dispensers. HUTCHINGS, E. L. Dec. 29, 1060 [Sept. 29, 1959], No. 32963/59. Class 18. A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape dispenser, in Fig. 1, comprises a saddle-shaped portion 1 placed astride a reel and held in position by a retaining member 2 whose projections 3 snap into the slots 4 in the sides of the saddle portion. The device is fitted with a leaf spring 7 and is capable of a pivotal movement by depressing the end opposite bridge-piece 8 to lift the outermost end of the tape from a sealed position to expose the said end for manipulation. The upper end of the device is provided with a projection 5, acting as a cutting edge. In another embodiment (not shown) the retaining member 2 is provided with a different set of projections 3 to engage a corresponding set of slots 4. In a further embodiment shown in Fig. 15 the saddle-portion is provided with a separate section 1a pivoted at 9 and fitted with a bridge-piece 8, which disengages the end of tape from the serrated cutting edge 5 on pressing of a protruding shoulder 12. The retaining member 2 consists of an endless, flat metal strip operated by a helical spring 7. In a still further embodiment shown in Fig. 18 the reel is mounted on flanges 13 integral with member 1a which pivots about 9 on depression of the shoulder 12, when the bridge-piece lifts the end of tape from the serrated projection 5.
