Abstract
915,481. Vehicle bodies. LEWIS, E. M. March 3, 1960 [Dec. 3, 1958], No. 38971/58. Class 108(1). In a vehicle the load-receiving part 4 has bent over side parts 9 which engage the upper frame member 1 and the part 4 extends in a caternary shape between the sides of the lower frame member 2 without being in contact therewith. The membrane 4 is secured at 11 to the frame member 1 so that the membrane 4 is free to expand when carrying hot material. The upper frame 1 is supported in its central region by members 3 so that the frame is free to expand towards each end. A discharge door 6 which may be thermally insulated from the structure is carried on arms 15 pivoted at 7 to lugs secured to the frame 1 and is locked in the closed position by a rotatable cam and peg arrangement. The other door 3 is pivoted to lugs 35 secured to the member 1 and is normally retained in the closed position by bolts 29. The membrane 4 may have transverse slots and have bands of creep-resistant steel on its under surface.
