Abstract

914,971. Pipe couplings. BLAKEY'S BOOT PROTECTORS Ltd. June 30, 1961 [May 18, 1960], No. 17562/60. Class 99(1). A pressure-tight electrically continuous flexible coupling includes a composite metal and resilient sealing unit juxtaposed between the flared or taper bored end 5 of a sleeve 1 or analagous outer member and a union nut 6 screwing upon the sleeve, the sealing unit comprising a rubber collar 9 of frusto conical form and a split metal ring 8 secured to the collar, these two parts having a bore greater than the outside diameter of the co-acting pipe 10. Tightening of the nut compresses the resilient portion of the sealing unit to grip the pipe and simultaneously forces the metal ring 8 into contact with the pipe.
