Abstract
A polymeric organosilicon acetylide may be made by reacting an organodifluorosilane with an alkali metal acetylide. The polymers contain recurring R2-Si-CC-units, wherein each R is an alkyl, alkenyl or aryl radical or one R is H. The reaction is preferably effected in an inert solvent, e.g. diethyl ether, hexane, octane, decane or benzene, and generally between room temperature and 100 DEG C. In a typical example (1) diethyldifluorosilane was added to a suspension of sodium acetylide in diethyl ether, the temperature being maintained at the boiling point of the ether; the reaction mixture was then cooled, filtered to remove precipitated NaF and freed of solvent to yield a waxy, fusible polymer. Uses: as lubricants, catalysts and additives for plastics, varnishes and oils.
