Abstract

914,349. Band clamps. TREVES, J. Aug. 16, 1960, No. 28427/60. Class 44. A tightening device for a band clamp 20 of the type having oblique slots 23 (not shown), in one end portion in which engage a rotatable worm 50, comprises a base 33 detachably connectable to the outside of the other end portion of the band and a cap 60 secured to the base which cap holds the worm against axial displacement with both its ends exposed. As shown, the base 33 is detachably secured to the band 20 by providing the band with a pair of hooks 27, 28 which engage openings 43, 44 in the base. The cap 60 has a pair of lugs 63 (not shown) and 64 by which it is secured to the base 33; the lugs can be provided with interengaging dovetail formations if desired. Movement of the worm is prevented by ribs 61, 62 formed in the cap which engage grooves formed in the worm and the worm has a screw-driver slot at each end. In a modification a plurality of hooks 27, 28 can be provided so that the base can have alternative positions.
