Abstract

914,127. Rectifying. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. March 30, 1960 [April 10, 1959], No. 11264/60. Class 38 (2). Failure of a semi-conductor rectifier in an arrangement including a number of parallel rectifiers is indicated by a device operated by an element responsive to reverse current in series with each parallel arrangement. Rectifiers 9 are connected in series with fuse 21 and each parallel arrangement 5 is connected in series with a transformer 35 including a D.C. biasing winding 43 and an output winding 47 connected to indicating device 54. Transformer 35 is normally saturated and only becomes desaturated and delivers an output signal when a rectifier fails and reverse current flows. When the fuse has melted the rectifier system operates normally, but with two rectifiers carrying a current normally shared between three, until the faulty rectifier is replaced. Each saturable transformer 35 may have its own fault indicating device. The transformers may be replaced by magnetically polarized reverse current relays in parallel with resistors, or by non-polarized relays, each in series with a rectifier across a resistor.
