913,144. Ball and roller-bearing cages. SCHAEFFLER, W., and SCHAEFFLER, G., [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER O. H. G.]. Dec. 28, 1960 [Jan. 7, 1960], No. 44500/60. Class 12 (1). A cage for a ball or roller-bearing comprises two members, each having flanges connected by a web, the flanges of one member fitting between and engaging the flanges on the other member, windows in the webs, and at least one of the members having a part of the web displaced to abut the other member. A needle thrust-bearing cage, Fig. 2, comprises parts 3, 4, having windows for needles 1, part 3 having flanges 6, 7 which engage the inside of flanges 8, 9 on part 4, and channels 5 in parts 3, 4, forming faces for spacing parts 3, 4. The latter are secured by upsetting the ends of flanges 8, 9. In a modification, a ball-thrust bearing cage, Fig. 4, comprises parts 12, 13, riveted at 15, channels 14 being formed in each part which may vary in depth providing the combined depths of each associated pair are equal to the required spacing of parts 12, 13. In a further modification, Fig. 5, a needle thrust-bearing cage has a channel 20 in part 19 only, the length of which is equal to the required spacing of parts 18, 19, the latter parts being spot-welded at 21. In a still further modification, a rectilinear roller-bearing cage, Fig. 6, comprises parts 22, 23, each of which has two channels 26, 27 and 28, 29, respectively, all having the same depth. In another modification, a needle bearing-cage, Figs. 9, 10, comprises parts 34, 35, the former having alternate webs 40 on the inner side of the roller-pitch circle, and the latter having alternate webs 41, on the outer side of the pitch circle, channels 42, 43, being formed in webs 40, and channels 44, 45, being formed in webs 41.
