Abstract

912,839. Packaging; opening containers. STAR ALUMINIUM CO. Ltd. May, 15,-1959 [May 16, 1958], No. 16834/59. Classes 66 and 94(1). An hermetically sealed package, Fig. 1, comprises a filled container 1, preferably of aluminium, sealed by a cover sheet 5 that is adhered to the container and is itself covered by a lid 6 that slides endwise on to the container from one side of the sealed top. The cover sheet 5, of aluminium foil, paper or a film of synthetic plastics material, preferably a transparent material, may be sealed in position by a synthetic thermoplastic. As shown, the lid 6 has two opposite edges bent to embrace the flanged edge 4 of the container. Alternatively, the lid 6 could have two opposite edges turned down to embrace the base 2 or the lid may be formed as a tube or sleeve completely surrounding the container. In Fig. 10 the container has a channel-shaped flange 7 filled with an adhesive before the cover sheet 5 is pressed thereon. A thread or wire may be included in the channel 7 to facilitate opening the sealed package. Alternatively the cover sheet may have grooves or projections to facilitate opening.
