Abstract

912,715. 4-Hydroxytryptamines. SANDOZ Ltd. Aug. 24, 1959 [Sept. 12, 1958; Jan. 16, 1959; Feb. 27, 1959], No. 28885/59 Addition to 911,946. Class 2(3). The invention comprises indoles of the general formula and acid addition salts thereof, wherein R1 and R2 represent similar or dissimilar C1-4 alkyl groups or, together with the adjacent N-atom, a piperidine ring, with the proviso that R1 and R2 together must contain at least 3 carbon atoms and the preparation of indoles of the formula wherein R1<SP>1> and R2<SP>1> are similar or dissimilar C1-4 alkyl groups, or together with the adjacent N-atom, a piperidine ring and X is a protective group, which is capable of being subsequently split off by condensing an indole of the formula with an oxalic acid dihalide and then with an amine R1<SP>1>R2<SP>1>NH thereafter reducing the amide and splitting off the group X. The protective group X is preferably a benzyl group. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise indoles of formula I and an inert carrier. The compositions may be formulated as tablets or solutions for injection. Specifications 744,774 and 781,390 also are referred to.
