Abstract

912,664. Automatic current-control systems for battery-charging. HARMER, H. M. Nov. 11, 1960 [Nov. 18, 1959], No. 39126/59. Class 38 (4). A secondary or an electrolytic battery 9 has current passed through it from an alternating current source by way of a transformer 16 and a rectifier 18, the current being controlled by the degree of saturation of a transductor 13 which is controlled by a transistor 10 dependent on a temperature-sensitive resistor or thermocouple 8 so situated as to be influenced by a catalyst 1 which is provided to assist the conversion into water of the hydrogen and oxygen produced in the battery 9 by electrolysis; the rate of such conversion determining the temperature of the catalyst and hence the current passing through the battery 9. The catalyst is placed in or on the battery 9. In a further embodiment, the temperature rise of the catalyst may be compared with the temperature rise of a resistor carrying the current being passed through the battery. Specifications 693,096 and 871,605 are referred to.
