Abstract

A film made from a synthetic linear polyester, e.g polyethylene terephthalate, is subjected to the action of ozone, a layer of hydrophilic unsaturated monomer, e.g. acrylic and methacrylic acids and amides, is then applied thereto and polymerized. The monomer used may contain an activator, e.g. sodium bisulphite. The resulting film may be coated with a water-permeable colloid, e.g. gelatine. The polyester film may be biaxially stretched either before or after the polymerization of the monomer.
