Abstract

A digital thermal image is enhanced by altering the digital values so as to fold the digital values about a selected value having a pre-set relationship to their mean value and offset this selected value to an extreme value to produce the fig. 2c histogram. This increases the amount of contrast visible in the final image when the display device has fewer levels than there are initial digital values. <IMAGE>
