Abstract

912,194. Corrosion - resistant electrodes. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. May 1, 1961 [April 30, 1960], No. 15744/61. Class 41. In electrolytic processes producing chlorine from aqueous solutions or fused salts, the metal anode comprises niobium as a base plated with a noble metal, preferably iridium. An undercoat of another noble metal, e.g. platinum, may be formed. The potential at which chlorine is liberated at these anodes is lower than in the case of titanium or graphite, thus reducing power consumption. Iridium or other platinum group metal may be deposited on the niobium metal or alloy base by electro-plating or by vapour deposition.
