An animal nose ring comprises two hinged parts 10, 11, the part 11 being provided with a pin 16 which spans a slot 13 which receives a reduced portion 14 of the part 10, the portion 14 having a tapered contour to ride over the pin 16 as the ring is closed and a notch to embrace the pin and retain the ring closed.
