Abstract
912,095. Making metal sheets; planing. ERBSLOEH, O., and ERBSLOEH, P. G., [trading as ERBSLOEH KOMM.-GES., J. & A.]. Dec. 21, 1959, No. 43248/59. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (3). A method of preparing a hot rolled sheet from a cast metallic ingot comprises heating the ingot, removing at least one surface of the ingot in a single skimming operation, and immediately thereafter, hot rolling the ingot. In skimming, e.g. a cast aluminium ingot 4, Fig. 1, a slide 6 carries the ingot along a table 7, and cutters 1, 2, remove offcuts 9, 10. In a modification, the ingot is secured to slide 6 on a long edge, and an offcut 9 is removed from each side of the ingot, or a double frame planing machine 12, Fig. 4, may be used, the cutter 1 being carried by a cross-beam 13. The ingot may be turned over by rotary pegs which engage the ends, or sides, of the ingot.
