Abstract

Aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide or peracids (for example per monosulphuric acid or peracetic acid) are stabilized by the addition of a water soluble salt of tripyridyl, for example the sulphate, nitrate, or phosphate, preferably in an amount of 10-500 p.p.m. Other stabilizers may also be added, for example tin salts, e.g. sodium stannate, soluble phosphates, e.g. phosphoric acid, sodium pyrophosphates and the molecularly dehydrated phosphates of the alkali or alkaline earth metals, e.g. tetraphosphates and hexa meta-phosphates. The tripyridyl salt may be prepared by reacting the tripyridyl, which should be free of dipyridyl, with a slight excess of the appropriate acid. Specifications 465,070 and 713,156 are referred to.ALSO:Aqueous solutions of per-acids, for example per-acetic acid, are stabilized by the addition of a water-soluble salt of tripyridyl, for example the sulphate, nitrate, or phosphate, preferably in an amount of 10-500 p.p.m. Other stabilizers may also be added, for example tin salts such as sodium stannate, or soluble phosphates such as phosphoric acid, sodium pyrophosphate, and the molecularly dehydrated phosphates of the alkali or alkaline earth metals, e.g. tetraphosphates and hexametaphosphates. The tripyridyl salt may be prepared by reacting the tripyridyl, which should be free of dipyridyl, with a slight excess of the approximate acid. Specifications 465,070 and 713,156 are referred to.
