Abstract

909,519. Insulators. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRO-CERAMIQUE. Feb. 16, 1960 [Feb. 16, 1959; July 24, 1959], No. 5503/60. Class 36. A suspension insulator comprises a generally cylindrical insulator body 1, having at least one external helicoidal fin 2, and having internal housings 3 at its ends into which are fitted electrodes or pins 6, each pin having a suspending head 7, and a stem 8 sealed into the housing. Preferably the pins have each a flange 9 which fits into an enlarged recess so that the flange is inset into the end of the insulator body. The stem of the pin may be ribbed and the inner wall of the housing sanded to improve adhesion with the sealing material, e.g. cement 10 which secures the pin in the housing, a suitable wax composition 12 being used to seal over the enlarged recess above the flange 9. A sealing joint 11 of e.g. impregnated canvas may be interposed between the flange 9 and the shoulder of the recess. In an alternative form (Fig. 2, not shown), only the peripheral portion of the flange is inset, being reduced in thickness for the purpose.
