Abstract

909,075. Feeding webs; delivering bags. FAUSTEL Inc. Oct. 5, 1960, No. 34062/60. Class 100 (1). [Also in Groups VIII, XVII and XXIV] In a bag-making machine the web material 24 is drawn by rollers 140, 141 between creasing rollers 37, 38 and is delivered on to a suction drum 83 where heated wires 110, rotated to coincide with channels 84 on the drum, cut and seal the web to form bags. The speed of the rollers 140, 141 may be changed by a manually adjustable control 165 in a gear-box 160, thereby varying the speed at which the web is fed to the drum 83 and controlling the length of the bags formed. Web adjustment.-An adjustable gear mechanism 162 (see Group XXIV) between the gear-box 160 and the rollers 140, 141 enables a momentary increase or decrease to be effected in the speed of the drive to the rollers 140, 141, thus permitting the position of printed matter on the web to be adjusted in relation to the action of the heated wires 110. The mechanism 162 is operated by a lever 193 and worm-screw 191. Delivery apparatus.-The drum 83 is joined to a source of vacuum through its hollow shaft 89, mounted for anti-clockwise rotation as shown, and driven through eccentric drive mechanism (see Group XXIV) so that, in each revolution, it has periods of fast and slow travel. A transfer belt 120 having a suction chamber 126 receives the formed bags from the drum 83 and delivers them to a conveyer 133 operated periodically by an hydraulic cylinder and piston to remove a pile of bags.
