Abstract

908,818. Coils for dynamo-electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 4, 1961 [May 9, 1960], No. 16333/60. Class 35. An electrically conducting loop is arranged at least partly in a stator winding slot of a dynamoelectric machine in the axial plane of the machine so as to provide a path for eddy currents and thereby reduce the effect of the leakage inductance. The stator 1 (Fig. 1) comprises a plurality of slots 2 in which are located winding conductors 4 and 5 (Fig. 2) surrounded by insulation 6, 7 and further insulated by strips 8 and 15. The inner side of the inner winding conductors is covered by a channel-shaped conductor 11 and at the outer side by a conducting member 14 secured in position by insulating wedges 16, 17 provided with pairs of projections 18, 19 and 21, 22 which respectively engage grooves in the member 14 and the sides of the winding slot. Cooling fluid is passed through channels in the members 11 and 14 from insulating or conducting pipes 28, 29. The ends of conducting members 11 and 14 project from the slot and are electrically connected together to form a loop in which the leakage flux across the slot can induce a current. The connection of the ends may be effected by connecting together the pipes 28 and 29 when they are conducting or by a U-shaped member passing over the conducting member 14 and the winding conductors and bolted to the conductor 11.
