Abstract

908,425. Creasing-machines. FLOSEAL CORPORATION. May 6, 1961, No. 16555/61. Class 100 (2). [Also in Group V] A mould for producing creasing dies of the type used in making cartons has a main body of thermosetting resin in which are grooves adapted to hold frictionally the creasing rules of the die being moulded. As shown in Fig. 1 conventional wooden furniture pattern 1 holds creasing rules 4 between blocks 3. As shown in Fig. 4 mould backing panel 9 comprising parallel steel plates 11 connected by resin-impregnated paper walls 12 forming hexagonal cells and knock-out pins 16 frictionally retained by holes in plates 11 is placed in pattern 1, all exposed surfaces being coated with a parting medium. Thermosetting resin 21 is poured into the pattern within side-walls 6 so as to cover the heads 18 of knock-out pins 16 and enter sides 14 of backing-plate 9, weight 22 being used to ensure heads 18 are flat against blocks 3. When the resin has cured the mould comprising resin plate 21 with grooves to take rails 2 and rules 4 and backing-plate 9 with knock-out pins 16 is ready for use when rails 2 have been replaced. The working dies are produced from the mould as illustrated in Fig. 6. Rules 4, for the die being made, have U-shaped recesses 29 and are fitted into the grooves in the mould with tie-rods 30 in place with small pieces of thin compressible material, such as chipboard 32, under them. Rules 4 and exposed surfaces are covered with parting medium and epoxy compound 35 poured into the mould within rails 2 and level with the upper edge of the rails. When the compound 35 is set the finished die is removed from the mould by a simple press (Fig. 7, not shown) which simultaneously presses on shanks 17 with the mould held in the inverted position. Adjustments may be made after curing of the die by tapping the rules against the compressible seat provided by chipboard pieces 32.
