Abstract

908,129. Fusible cut-outs. MELBOURN, W. F., BESWICK, D. G. E., and BESWICK, K. E. June 24, 1960 [June 26, 1959], No. 22000/59. Class 38 (1). A fuse comprises two contacts 2, 3, which may, as shown, form the end caps of a cartridge fuse, and a wire 6 and spring 5 secured end-toend between the contacts, with the spring under tension, by a link wire 9 connected to the wire 6 by solder, a by-pass wire 10 passing through the spring and being connected to the contact 2 at one end and soldered at its other end to the end of the spring adjacent the link. The -link wire 9 may be integral with the spring or comprise a separate member. It is stated that the fuse will pass surge currents greater than its rated value without rupturing but on prolonged overload the solder joints will fuse and the spring will separate the link wire 9 and wire 6.
