Abstract
907,778. Artificial leather. GOPPINGER KALIKOUND KUNSTLEDER - WERKE G.m.b.H. Feb. 17, 1961 [Feb. 19, 1960], No. 5995/61. Class 140. An artificial leather which is pervious to water vapour and is capable of absorbing moisture, is produced by combining a woven or knitted fabric backing with a felt or fleece of natural and/or synthetic fibres, which felt or fleece has been impregnated with a natural and/ or synthetic rubber or a synthetic resin and then grained, and applying a film of synthetic resin by coating rolls or like means to the surface of the impregnated and grained felt or fleece in such manner that only the projecting points of the graining are coated. The process may be modified by applying a synthetic resin layer to a paper with an embossed grain, placing the impregnated fleece or felt on the layer, the felt or fleece together with the synthetic resin layer, being subsequently stripped from the paper when the resin has dried, and wound into a roll. Suitable impregnants are natural or synthetic rubber or synthetic resins such as polyvinyl chloride or the copolymerization products of vinyl chloride, e.g. with vinyl acetate, polyacrylates, polyethylene, polyaddition products, polyester, isocyanate modified polyesters, and may be foamed. The fleece may be of nylon and cotton fibres, the backing may be of cotton, and the synthetic resin film of a polyester.
