A process for the treatment of flexible elongated material is characterized in that the material is subjected, when saturated with liquid, to the action of at least one gas stream flowing at sufficient velocity relative to the fabric to remove a controlled amount of liquid from the material prior to subsequent processing. Apparatus for carrying out this process comprises a pair of rollers 12, between which saturated material 10 is passed, the rollers being spaced from each other so as to exert a light pressure on material 10. The rollers 12 are contained in a trough 13 having a slit 14 at the base thereof through which the material 10 can pass. Below the trough 13 are mounted a pair of air boxes 15 each with an elongated slot 16 extending over the whole width of slit 14 and through which air at a suitable velocity may pass to be directed on to the fabric. Any surplus liquid removed from the material is carried by the air stream on to the rollers 12, is collected in the nip between the rollers and drains away at the ends of the rollers.
