An apparatus for indicating the number of laps travelled by a toy vehicle around a track by which the vehicle is guided in a fixed path comprises an electric switch supported by the track in position to be actuated by the vehicle and an indicator of the number of laps electrically connected to the switch to be actuated whenever the switch is operated by the vehicle. The vehicle has a guide pin running in a slot between two conducting rails 3. Each switch 4 is mounted in a recess in a base 2 and comprises a socket 10 formed in an insulating housing. Two contact members 14 engage an insulating, rotatable pin 15 mounting a contact 16. The pin mounts a disc 17 with a lug 18 projecting across one rail to engage the guide pin to rotate the disc against the action of a spring 20 and to close the circuit. Closing the switch energizes a coil 30 and rocks an armature 29 which indexes an escapement wheel 27 having ten notches and mounted on a shaft supporting a dial. Other indicators may be geared to the shaft. The dial is connected by a lug to a dial 40 having ten lugs and with digits marked on a cylindrical drum. A notched wheel 42 attached to the dial and with ten notches has a spring bearing against a notch and prevents the dial overrunning. The indicators are attached to the base and are covered by a casing with windows to show one digit of a dial. An indicating mark or number of a car is shown on a dial manually operated by a wheel 48. The armature may be manually actuated by a spring-urged plunger 36.
