Abstract

907,076. Punching. ALLIED PRODUCTS CORPORATION. April 14, 1961 [April 15, 1960], No. 13621/61. Class 83 (4). A spring ejector for use in a punch comprises a compression coil spring having a straight wire tang extending axially from one end thereof and integrally connected thereto. The ejector 51 comprises a spring 52 which has upper and lower close-coiled portions 58, an open coiled section 60 and an integral tang 54 extending axially from the spring. The punch 2 has a bore 62 in which the spring is a sliding fit and a coaxial bore 56 in which the tang 54 slides. The free length of the spring is such that the open coil section 60 is slightly compressed when the ejector is in the punch, and the punch is assembled in the holder 10 in which it is retained by a ball 22 housed in a bore 18 in the holder and loaded by a spring 20 to engage a groove 24 in the punch. The punch may be removed by depressing the ball by inserting a pin through an aperture 26. The tang 54 is cut to such a length that it protrudes from the cutting face 5 of the punch when the lower close coiled portion 58 is seated on the shoulder 64. The die 32 is retained in the holder 34 by a spring-loaded ball 38 which is pressed into a groove 40 in the die.
