Abstract

Marine oils, particularly, e.g. a whale oil other than sperm whale oil, are hydrogenated by treatment with hydrogen in presence of a catalyst containing palladium as the only catalytic metal; preferably the palladium is supported on carbon, but alumina, silica gel, kieselguhr and asbestos are also mentioned as supports.
