905,782. Engine turning gear. GRIMMINGER & SCHIP G.m.b.H., [trading as HIRTH MOTOREN KOMM.-GES.] Dec. 14, 1960 [June 3, 1960], No. 43045/60. Class 7(5) In a starting device for an internal-combustion engine a torsionally elastic coil spring 21 serving as a coupling member and embracing a part 11 to be driven is adapted to be turned at one end 23 and thereby twisted during the starting operation in such a manner that its coil diameter is reduced and it grips firmly around and turns the part 11 and on completion of the starting operation automatically frees the part, the other end of the spring being engaged with a fixed part 12 in such a manner that the other end can when the device is operated slide on the fixed part with a lag in relation to the one end as soon as the spring has firmly gripped and turned the part to be driven. The other end of the spring may have a polygonal shape in the region where it bears against the fixed part. The turns of the spring at the ends of the latter are advantageously wound close to one another.
