Abstract
904,526. Ladle nozzles. MARSHALL & CO. (LOXLEY) Ltd., THOMAS. Aug. 9, 1960 [Aug. 14, 1959], No. 27865/59. Class 82 (1). A nozzle for teeming molten metal contains a tubular insert as shown at 16, which may be of the same refractory as the outer shell 10, or different therefrom, the insert forming the whole of the teeming bore except that the upper end of the insert is arranged to be slightly below the stopper seating formed by the flared mouth 18 of the shell so that contact of the insert with the stopper when seated is avoided. The insert is cemented in position throughout its depth. The shell is composed of a refractory which is sufficiently plastic at teeming temperature to be deformed by the stopper sufficiently to conform to the contour thereof on seating. The bore of the insert may be parallel or convergent towards the exit end, and the material of the insert may be selected so that the increase in bore diameter due to erosion compensates for the decreasing ferrostatic pressure.
