Abstract
904,180. Percussion fuzes for anchors. PNEUMODYNAMICS CORPORATION. May 26, 1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 19181/61. Classes 9 (1) and 9 (2). [Also in Group XXXIII] An embodiment anchor (see Group XXXIII)is propelled by a propellent charge 19 in a cartridge 14 when a firing-pin 23 is released upon engagement of the nose member 22 with the bottom, i.e. lake floor or ocean bed. The pin 23 is normally held in the cocked position by lock elements 34 which are released by movement of the nose member 22, such movement being prevented by a propeller wheel 42 being screwed up against the member 22 and held there by a guard ring 43 secured in position by a spring clip 46. When the anchor is to be operated, the clip 46 is removed, the guard ring 43 falls away, the anchor is lowered into the water, causing wheel 42 to rotate until it engages a shoulder 44, leaving the nose member 22 so that it can fire the cartridge on engagement with the ocean bottom. The length of the threaded portion connecting the propeller wheel 42 with the fuse body 13 is such that a predetermined depth is reached before the anchor can be fired.
