Abstract

903,493. Cooling exhaust gases. HUNSLET (HOLDINGS) Ltd. May 1, 1961 [Jan. 9, 1961], No. 804/61. Class 7(2) An exhaust gas cooling system includes a water jacket 17 for the or each exhaust gas pipe 16 and a chest 19 in which the gases are received for dilution with air prior to discharge. Engine exhaust gas is led through pipe 16 to a conditioner 15 containing water through which the gas is passed so that water-soluble poisonous or noxious constituents can be absorbed. From container 15 the exhaust gas is discharged into chest 19 through flame trap or traps 20 to be diluted therein by air from the engine fan (not shown) and discharged through an opening 21. Cooling water is circulated from the engine water jacket through the radiator 12, jackets 14 and 17 and back to the engine via a pipe 18.
