Abstract

903,324. Propellent compositions. AEROJET-GENERAL CORPORATION. Aug. 18, 1960, No. 28687/60. Class 9 (2). A solid propellent composition comprises an intimate mixture of a readily oxidizable metal capable of liberating large quantities of heat during oxidation and an inorganic oxidizing salt of a metal, and a burning rate accelerator selected from the group of metals cobalt, copper, ferro-vanadium, lead and tin. The oxidizable metals may be aluminium, beryllium or magnesium and the salts may be chlorates, perchlorates, chromates, or dichromates of which potassium, lithium or sodium perchlorate are used in examples. The accelerator metal may be used in an amount of 1-30% based on the total composition.
