Abstract

903,242. Earth-working equipment. PLASSER, F., and THEURER, J. Dec. 21, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 43353/59. Class 68 (1). [Also in Group XXX] A machine for removing railway track ballast has at least one endless excavating scraper chain which circulates in a horizontal plane below the sleepers which is mounted on the machine so as to be pivotable about a vertical axis arranged outside the butt ends of the transverse sleepers. In the arrangement shown, scraper chains 14, arranged one on each side of the machine so that their free ends overlap when in the operative position beneath the sleepers 18 are pivotably mounted about a vertical shaft which is also pivotal in a vertical plane. The drive which may be hydraulic, for all the above movements is provided in an articulation 15. The ballast in front of the scraper chains 14 and outside the ends of the sleepers 18 is removed by bucket chains 5<SP>11</SP> and deposited through shoots 6<SP>11</SP> into a vibrating screen 7<SP>11</SP> from whence the rubbish passes through a shoot 8<SP>11</SP> on to a conveyer belt 12 which transfers it to a pivotable discharge belt 13 and the cleaned ballast is discharged on to a conveyer belt 11 which transfers it to the track through a shoot 10<SP>1</SP>. The ballast removed from beneath the sleepers 18 by the scraper chains 14 passes through a scoop 16, bucket chains 5<SP>11</SP> and shoots 6<SP>1</SP> on to a vibrating screen 7<SP>1</SP> from whence the rubbish is discharged on to the conveyer belt 12 through a shoot 8<SP>1</SP> and the cleaned ballast is discharged on to the track through the shoot 10<SP>1</SP>. When the machine is to be moved inoperatively along the track the scraper chains 14 are pivoted outwardly from beneath the sleepers 14 and then upwardly to a position with the normal cross-section of the machine and prior to this operation the bucket chains 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>11</SP> are pivoted upwardly by lifting cylinders 9, 9<SP>11</SP> about beams 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP> which are then displaced inwardly of the machine.
