Abstract

903,228. Vending apparatus. TAYLOR MFG. CO. June 3, 1961, No. 20120/61. Class 27. Apparatus for receiving empty bottles and refunding a predetermined value for them comprises one or more plates 75 at different levels for receiving cartons C of bottles and means 72 for moving them past means 113, 114 which register the number of bottles in each carton and correspondingly operate coin return means 120, 121. Initially, the opening 11<SP>1</SP> to a lower plate 75<SP>1</SP> is closed by a gate 95<SP>1</SP> and a carton placed on the upper plate 75 contacts an arm 100 to close a switch 103 so that a motor 85 is energized to drive a chain conveyer having a pair of lugs 72, one of which pushes the carton along the plate 75. Each bottle in the carton will then contact arms 115, 116 and through switches 113, 114 the coin return means 120, 121 will be operated to deliver a corresponding number of coins through funnels 130, 131 and slot 12. The cartons move on to a platform 140 and when four cartons have been received there an arm 170 opens a switch 173 and closes a switch 174. The circuit to the motor 85 is thus broken and a motor 163 is energized to drive crank means 152 which cause a rod 142 to shift the row of cartons over a hump and on to a sloping part of the platform 140. When the upper platform is completely filled, a rod 190 will be pushed back and will pull a spring-loaded cable 195 to close the gate 95 of the upper opening 11 and slacken a cable 197 to allow the gate 95<SP>1</SP> of the lower opening 11<SP>1</SP> to open. When the lower platform 140<SP>1</SP> is in its turn filled with cartons, a switch 199 is operated to de-energize the motors 85 and 163 and prevent further operation of the machine. The platforms may be extended through a wall into a storeroom or may be replaced by a conveyer belt leading to a storeroom; also, a single receiving station may be raised in steps to a series of vertically-arranged platforms. Instead of issuing coins or tokens, the apparatus may be modified to dispense printed receipts.
