Abstract

Mono-, di-, tri-, tetra- and penta-methanesulphonates of antibiotic F.I. 1600 (described in Specification 880,035) are obtained by reacting the antibiotic and/or a water-soluble salt thereof in aqueous solution with at least the stoichiometric amounts of formaldehyde and sodium bisulphite or with at least the stoichiometric amount of the addition compound of formaldehyde and sodium bisulphite. The above antibiotic sulphonates may be used in oral and parenteral pharmaceutical preparations in association with a carrier, particularly water.
