Abstract

902,527. Making cores. MIDLAND MOTOR CYLINDER CO. Ltd. Sept. 1, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957], No. 27339/57. Class 83 (1). A foundry core-box comprises a medial portion 4 separating core-forming cavities 7, 8 and having a pattern surface in each cavity and further portions 9, 10 defining each cavity and separable from the medial portion. The cores may be made of a material containing a heathardenable resin or a silicate binder set by CO 2 . The ends of the box may be separate or formed partly or wholly on the medial portion or sides. Two cores for I.C. engine parts are formed in the box, the parts each including a water jacket surrounding a cavity for two cylinders. The cores are formed with vents at 15, 16, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26. Unwanted open ends of the core vents are plugged by plugs which have been formed on the core, broken off and glued in place. The box may include heaters 22 for curing a resin mould or passages to pass CO 2 into the mould. The core-box may be mounted in a machine having means for moving the portions apart along vertical and horizontal paths.
