Abstract
902,439. Centrifugal separators. TISCHER, E. M. April 28, 1960, No. 14897/60. Class 23. [Also in Group I] A filter 8 is placed at the fluid outlet of a hydrocyclone 7 or a cyclone. The right and left-hand sides of the Figures show different constructions of hydrocyclones. Curved guide vanes 14 attached to a disc 15 are biased by a spring 16 so that the disc closes the inlet passage 12 of the hydrocyclone when no liquid is flowing into the chamber 11. When the pressure of liquid supplied through connection 21 is sufficient the disc and vanes lift so that liquid flows tangentially into the chamber, the effective size of the inlet depending on the rate of flow of the liquid. Impurities separated in the chamber are discharged through duct 42 and valve 44. Partially clarified liquid flows upwardly into the filter which comprises elements 9 having screens 10. Liquid from the filter discharges through an outlet 24. Should the filter become clogged, the liquid pressure lifts a spring-loaded valve 40 so that liquid continues to flow through a gap formed at 41. Studs 3 coact with slots 5 in a cover 2 which is removed by loosening the nuts 4 and twisting the cover. The filter and hydrocyclone assembled on a rod 19 may be removed for cleaning by unscrewing connection 19a.
