902,120. De-burring machines. KEHR, G., and WICKMANN, C., [trading as KEHR & WICKMANN]. May 20, 1960 [May 29, 1959], No. 17795/60. Class 60. A machine for deburring or removing scale from workpieces 23b, particularly gearwheels, comprises a plurality of motordriven brush rolls or abrasive discs 22, the workpieces being rotatably mounted on and fed by intermittent conveying means, such as a rotatable table 15, conveyer, or slide, so that the workpieces are subjected to treatment by several successive brush rolls, the axes of which are set at an angle to those of the workpieces. The workpieces are mounted on pegs 23 carried by the conveyer 13 and they may be freely rotated by engagement with the brushes or secured to the pegs by expanding brushes or clamps, the pegs themselves then being driven through a gear-train, as shown in Fig. 5; when mounted freely, the workpieces are retained by a cover-plate 24 supported by the table. The steel or brass brush rolls 22, individually driven by motors 25, are adjustably mounted on fixed supports 20 so spaced around the periphery of the table 13 that one workpiece is located between each pair undergoing treatment by adjacent brushes. The angular adjustment of the brushes relative to the workpieces may be such as will cause the latter to rotate on their, support pegs 23 when freely mounted; the brush supports may be swung through 180 degrees about a vertical axis to set them at opposite angles to the workpieces. The rotatable table is intermittently movable through known driving means such as a crank 17, Fig. 5, having a pin engageable with a toothed wheel 17a at each revolution of the crank, a Maltese cross, or similar intermittent driving mechanism, or, alternatively, the driving motor may be controlled by a time-switch or known type of " programming " control system. The machine may operate about a horizontal instead of a vertical axis.
