Abstract

902,078. Transistor switching circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES LTD. Aug. 8, 1958 [Aug. 13, 1957], No. 25527/58. Class No. 40 (6). A transistor switching circuit which becomes conductive or non-conductive according as to whether a potential difference or current of a predetermined polarity is applied thereto, comprises a transistor oscillator circuit which generates oscillations when said potential difference or current of said predetermined polarity is applied thereto and a transistor switching circuit to which the output of the oscillator circuit is applied and which becomes conductive according as to whether oscillations are generated or not. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, a sine-wave oscillator comprises a transistor 1 having an inductor 2 connected in its collector circuit and a series-tuned feed-back circuit comprising an inductor 3 coupled to the inductor 2 and connected between the emitter and base of the transistor 1. The circuit oscillates when a potential which is negative with respect to that applied to the emitter electrode is applied to terminal A. Oscillations induced in winding 18 are rectified by diode 17 to produce a bias voltage for the transistor 11 which as a result becomes conducting. When a relatively positive potential is applied at terminal A diode 8 conducts, thus preventing possible overloading of the transistor 1. The embodiment illustrated in Fig. 2 comprises two multivibrator circuits 1, 1<SP>1</SP> and 21, 21<SP>1</SP> which become respectively operative according as to whether terminal A is positive with respect to terminal B or vice versa. Hence according as to whether terminal A is positive or negative with respect to terminal B transistors 11, 11<SP>1</SP> or transistors 31, 31<SP>1</SP> become alternately conductive so connecting terminal C to the load 12 and the positive supply terminal or to the load 32 and the negative supply terminal.
