Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0901692/IV (b)/1> where A and B may contain halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups, R is a benzene nucleus which may contain non-solubilising substituents and R1 and R2 are H, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, dihydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or cyanoalkyl. The dyes are made in conventional fashion from sulphonoxyanilines and appropriate coupling components. The dyes colour cellulose acetate, polyamide, polyurethane and polyester fibres in yellow to red shades. Disperse dyeing processes are used. Many examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring processes, R being illustrated as a phenyl group.
